How the Game is Played?

The game will be played between four two-man teams in a question and answer format.

OFFICIAL GAME RULES

Once the contestants are in place on stage, the game’s Master of Ceremony (MC) will begin by stating the rules.  Teams will utilize the automated buzzers to determine who will attempt to answer first. The MC will begin play by reading the opening round question from the lowest point category with the team who buzzes first being given the chance to answer correctly. From the time the buzzer is hit, the team/player has 5 seconds to answer the question. If the answer is correct that team gains designated points, selects the next category and play continues with that team choosing the category for questions.  If the first team to buzz-in answers the question incorrectly, points will be deducted from that team and play will continue with MC using another question from the lowest point category. The game will continue onward until there has been a correct answer and the team giving the correct answer would then choose the category for the question to be drawn from. At that point, when a question has been answered incorrectly, the team answering the last question correct would choose the category and will maintain control of the board. The teams continue competing for points until all the categories and points in the first round have been chosen or time has expired. The first round of competition will end after 10 minutes of play or after all the categories have been played (whichever comes first). Two teams with the highest points will advance. The second round of competition will be the bonus round with double points and same rule play as stated above. Round two will end after all categories have been played or after ten minutes of play. At the conclusion of round two, the team with the highest number of points will split and become individual players as they move to the Lightening Round with three questions. The two individuals will compete toe to toe against each other for the final 1st and 2nd place prizes. The first individual to answer two questions correctly will be declared the winner!  The first place prize will consist of a $7,000 gift certificate provided by HD Supply Waterworks which will go to that individuals state association. The 2nd place prize of $3,000 gift certificate will go to that individuals state association.  The two finalists should end up being a state association staffer and a utility system individual. This game will test their combined knowledge of day-to-day operations and maintenance regarding rural water systems.

IN CASE OF TIE A sudden death round will be activated and the player who buzzes in to answer the question correctly will be named the winner.  Categories consist of random questions and the player who is answering the question will have 5 seconds in which to answer. If the first player to buzz in answers incorrectly the other player will have the chance to answer. This continues until a correct answer is given.    Correctness and completion of the questions will be based on the sole decision of the judges’ panel.

ALL DECISIONS BY THE JUDGES WILL BE CONSIDERED FINAL.
